Latin Faces Charges of Attempted Murder of Son

A Emmet man is facing multiple charges including attempted capital murder after he allegedly fired a shotgun at his son and another man.

According to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, Harold Latin was arrested Thursday, November 1 after deputies responded to a shots fired call at the home of Adrian Latin at 208 W. 2nd St. in Emmet.

Deputies reported arriving at the residence and making contact with multiple individuals at the residence who told them Harold and Adrian, Harold’s son, had been involved in an altercation earlier at the residence. The witnesses reportedly told deputies and investigators that Harold Latin  left Adrian’s residence and later returned with a shotgun.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office alleges Harold Latin fired the shotgun through a window of Adrian Latin’s residence into a room where Adrian and another individual were seated and then entered the residence, firing a second shot at Adrian as he attempted to flee. The Sheriff’s Office said no one was hit by any of the shots.

Deputy Bo Morris, Investigator Robert Missey, Deputy Justin Hughes and Deputy Bernard Box reportedly went to Harold Latin’s residence and made contact with him. While being interviewed, Harold Latin reportedly told deputies the shotgun was under his bed in the residence. The Sheriff’s Office said Latin gave Investigator Missey permission to take possession of the firearm.

Harold Latin was placed under arrest for possession of a firearm by certain persons and for attempted murder. He was booked into the Nevada County Detention Facility. Latin is scheduled to appear in court on December 7. Official charges have not been filed at this time but, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, Latin is looking at being charged with two counts of criminal attempt-capital murder, aggravated residential burglary, possession of a firearm by certain person and two counts-terroristic act. Latin was released on $25,000 bond.
