Super 1 Donates Hams to Lions and Hope in Action

The Hope Lions Club and Hope in Action were the beneficiaries Monday of a total of 219 Hormel “Cure 81” hams donated by Hormel Foods and Brookshire Grocery through Super 1 Foods.

The donations were part of a larger overall donation by the two companies of more than 15,000 hams to over 80 non-profit groups that support hunger relief in communities throughout the Brookshire’s market area to help feed people in need this Christmas.

Maye Dulaney of Hope in Action said, “I really do appreciate Super 1 for providing those hams for us. It will really help some of the families in need in our area.” Hope in Action is always taking donations and the need is even greater during the holiday season. Dulaney said that the greatest need they have going into Christmas is fruit. If you are planning on making a donation, Maye says there are some items that they always run short on and could use including canned meats (tuna, ham, SPAM, etc.), peanut butter, one-pound packages of rice and macaroni and cheese.

Mark Ross of Hope Lions said, “We wants to thank Super 1 Foods for their support throughout the years, particularly with the annual Christmas baskets.” Ross also expressed gratitude on part of the Hope Lions Club to Super 1 for supporting three of their employees as members of the Hope Lions Club. Ross said the Lions Club will be putting together the gift baskets next week and will be distributing them to families around the area later this month.

Brad Brookshire, CEO and Chairman for Brookshire Grocery Co. said, “In our 90 years of operation, giving back to the communities that support our stores has always been very important to us. We are thrilled to provide hams for so many individuals in need this holiday season.”
