Family Loses Everything in Thursday House Fire

A fire of unknown cause took the home and belongings of a Fulton family Thursday.

Fulton Fire Department was dispatched to the fire along with Guernsey Fire Department which responded to assist Fulton. The fire was so far advanced that firefighters could only contain it and ensure it didn’t threaten adjacent property. Deputies with the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to investigate and a Pafford EMS crew staged on scene to offer medical response if anyone needed it.

According to one of the residents, Tyron Peterson, he arrived at his home on Highway 67 in Fulton from his job at the Sheltered Workshop Thursday to find the house he shares with his girlfriend, Kansas Bullock, and her daughter in flames. Tyrone said no one was home at the time of the fire.

Kansas said that they lost everything they had in the fire, which burned the house to its foundation.

Julia Bullock-Lewis, who owns the house and is Kansas’ sister, said Tyrone and Kansas called her when they came in from work and told her it was on fire. Julia, who lives in Mississippi, said when they told her, she didn’t picture it being so severe.
