FAYETTEVILLE -- The 2024 MLB Draft is in the books and Arkansas came out of it in greater shape than even hoped.
On Tuesday's final day, two current Razorbacks were drafted and one signee. In all, eight Razorbacks were drafted and only two signees. Arkansas had expected to possibly lose as many as five signees.
The first selection Tuesday was Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley West outfielder Eli Lovich. The younger brother of outfielder Ross Lovich, who played at Arkansas last season after transferring in from Missouri, was taken in Round 11 with pick No. 332 by the Chicago Cubs.
As a senior, Lovich hit .414 with four home runs, 29 RBIs and 14 stolen bases, plus posted a 1.22 ERA as a pitcher. That earned him Kansas Player of the Year and second-team All-America honors from MaxPreps.
Two picks later Arkansas pitcher Jake Faherty was drafted by the Miami Marlins at No. 334. Faherty was outstanding this season with the Hogs. He had a 1.84 ERA with 26 strikeouts in only 14 2/3 innings. He had a record of 0-1 this season.
In Round 12, right-handed pitcher Brady Tygart was taken by the Boston Red Sox with pick No. 357. Tygart showed a lot of promise as a freshman and sophomore. This season he battled injuries that hampered after a fast start to the season. He finished this season with a 3.94 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 59 1/3 innings.
