94 vehicles showcased at Civitan Car Show at Watermelon Festival
The Hope Civitan Club Car Show on Saturday of the Watermelon Festival was a complete success, thanks to cool weather, a pleasant breeze, lots of spectators, and the 94 antique, vintage, and pristine classic vehicles on display in Fair Park.  Trophies were presented mid-afternoon, following judging by impartial out-of-county judges, in these top categories:

Best of Show winners at the Hope Civitan Car Show were (from left) Willie Harris of Hope for Best of Show Paint; Joel Wisenhunt of Nashville, Best of Show Truck; Johnathan Zacarias of Hope, Best of Show Car; and a representative for Joseph Austin of Tontitown, who won Best of Show Engine.  Farmers Bank & Trust sponsored the "Best of Show" trophies.

The People’s Choice Award, voted on by Civitan Car Show visitors as well as car show entrants, went to Darin Laughard of Hope for his 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT.  The trophy was created and donated by Hugg & Hall Equipment.  New awards went to Freaks of Nature car club for Most Club Participation and to Calvin Wright of Southside, AR, for Longest Distance Traveled to Show.  Those trophies were created and donated by VMKustumz.  Pictured (from left) are Civitan President Mona Still, Laughard, Richard Rush of Freaks of Nature, Civitan Car Show Chairman Amber Mackey, and Wright. 



Best of Show Car – 2024 Ford Mustang GT, owner Johnathan Zacarias of Hope.

Best of Show Truck – 1956 Ford F100, Joel Whisenhunt, Nashville.

Best of Show Engine – 1937 Ford Roadster, Joseph Austin, Tontitown. 

Best of Show Paint – 2019 Corvette, Willie Harris, Hope.

Pre 1950 Car/Truck – first, Gary Ramez, Alexander, for his 1932 Ford 3 Window; second to Joseph Austin, Tontitown, for his 1937 Ford Roadster, and third to Jacob Gold of Hope for his 1948 Ford Super Deluxe.

1950-1960 Car – first, Jerry Vent, Alexander, 1955 Chevy 210; second, Mitch Downs, Hope, 1955 Chevy 210 2-door; third, Wayne Landes, Hope, 1953 Ford Customline Tudor Sedan.

1950-1960 Truck – first, Joel Whisenhunt, Nashville, 1956 Ford F-100; second, Marc Meyer, Arkadelphia, 1953 Ford F-100; third, Larry Rasberry, Shongaloo, LA, 1956 GMC 100.

1961-1972 Car – first, Hunter Johnson, Hope, 1966 Chevy Chevelle; second, Joseph Austin, Tontitown, 1965 Ford Galaxie; third, Mike Catlett, Donaldson, 1964 Chevy Impala.

1961-1972 Truck – first, Josh Foy, Bismark, 1969 Ford F-100; second Joel Whisenhunt, Nashville, 1968 Dodge D-100; third, Tim McMullan, Hope, 1966 Chevy.

1973-1990 Car – first, Warner Mays, Hope, 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88; second, Allen Dickson, Waldo, Oldsmobile Regency; third, Brian Shewbert, Hope, 1978 Pontiac TransAm.

1973-1990 Truck – first, Albert Anderson, Hope, 1986 Chevy C20; second, Lane Faulkner, Prescott, 1982 Chevy C10; third, David Satterwhite, Hope, 1979 Dodge Lil Red Express.

1991-2000 Car – first, David and Linda Oller, Prescott, 1991 Pontiac Firebird. 

1991-2000 Truck – first, Daniel King, Hope, 2000 Chevy S-10; second, Darrius Melton, Hot Springs, 1995 Chevy OBS; third, Bryce Blackwell, Hope, 1998 Chevy S-10.

2001-Present Car – first, Darin Laughard, Hope, 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT; second, Mitchell Massanelli, Hope, 2020 Chevy Camaro; third, Calvin Wright, Southside, 2002 Pontiac Firebird.  

2001-Present Truck – first, Verton Miller, Nashville, 2014 Dodge Ram 1500; second, Richard Rush, Hot Springs, 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac; third, Daniel King, Hope, 2015 Chevy Tahoe. 

Corvette 1953-1983 – first, Dean Marsh, Hope, 1976 Corvette Stingray; second, Mitch Downs, Hope, 1967 Corvette Coupe.

Corvette 1984-Present – first, Willie Harris, Hope, 2019 Corvette; second, Dean Smith, Benton, LA, 2023 Corvette; third, Jimmy Norwood, Nash, TX, 2002 Corvette Coupe.

Rat Rod – first, Raymond Ridge, Benton, AR, 1938 Ford Pickup; second, Johnny Smith, Ida, LA, 1950 Chevy Pickup; third, Howard Tippit, Hope, 1948 Willy PU.

Import – first, Mark Mullins, Hope, 1969 Volkswagen Type 1 Beetle; second, Jason Thornton, Hot Springs, 1992 Subaru RHD Alextone SVX; third, Anthony McCool, Hot Springs, 2004 Acura RSX.

Mustang 1994-Present – first, Johnathan Zacarias, Hope, 2024 Ford Mustang GT; second, Jerry Taylor,  Texarkana, TX, 2016 Ford Mustang GT 350; third, Chris Laymon, 2009 Ford Mustang.
