A dedication to service: Curry's Community Outreach hosts this week's Community Coffee

Curry's Community Outreach Ministry hosted this week's Community Coffee at the Nevada County Library in Prescott this morning, and shared with guests a morning of fellowship and camaraderie in dedication to service. Participants were provided fruit, snacks, sweets, and treats to nibble on as they mingled with fellow guests and the Curry's team.

Pastor Ivory Curry said the purpose of today's event was to express appreciation and share with others the mission of this organization. "We want to show appreciation to everyone who has helped this organization serve our community. So many of these guests have contributed in many ways," Curry said. "We also like to invite different people from various occupations and all walks of life to come together for fellowship and demonstrate what unity and community can do. The people you find here are people who care a lot about the community and want to further, not a personal agenda, but the Prescott agenda, and they all work together to make it better."

One such person is Ronnie Nolen, who greeted guests as they came in the door today. At each and every Curry's event this reporter has attended, Nolen has been on the scene to lend a hand. He's been spotted manning the grill at the Funday for kids, toting bikes and presents for the kiddos after the Christmas party, and helping deliver plates of food for the Community Feed. Nolen has been present and available for all activities while proudly sporting his Curry's Community Outreach t-shirt. SWARK.Today asked Nolen his motivation for participating in these community activities. "Pastor Curry is a good man and does a lot of good things for the community, and I just want to be there to give support however I can," Nolen said.

Another happy volunteer that guests have often seen at Curry's Community Outreach activities is Rashalla Young. Today, Young assisted with the buffet, keeping the snacks replenished so guests always had a sweet treat at hand. Whether she was assisting with the raffle drawing for the bike giveaway, organizing the ceremonies for the banquet, or leading kids in a Funday activity, Young has been front and center with a smiling face at Curry's events. Young said she believes in the mission of the ministry, and want's to support it in any way she can. "I just want to help," she said.

A central figure in Curry's Community Outreach Ministry is Sister Kay Curry. She is often busy behind the scenes cooking, planning, or taking care of the small details to make sure all guests, especially the children, are happy and supported. Today's Coffee gave this reporter the opportunity to get her thoughts on the community activities Curry's so often provides, and her remarks summed up the morning quite nicely. "When something is put on your heart to do, and then is put on the hearts of others, too, it becomes so much more," she said. "We try to do things that will make things better for the children and also bring the community together .... we love what we do."
