It was predicted that the Gurdon Go-Devils, playing on their home field, would test the Prescott Curley Wolves and it did happen, but only up to mid-way through the second quarter.

Prescott (4-0) Coach Brian Glass described what Gurdon (4-1) was able to do a week ago. “Gurdon had a great defensive line, and they posed some problems for us.  We had some penalties that put us in bad situations early, and with Gurdon holding the ball and using the entire play clock it kept our offense off the field.  We only had 4 possessions in the first half.”

But eventually, the levee of Gurdon’s defense broke and Prescott’s offense began producing as it usually does. “After trailing 7 to 0 we scored 42 unanswered points, so I was pleased with our team being able to respond and get control of the game,” Glass said.

Along the way, though, Prescott did commit its share of penalties. Asked what could be done about this, Glass said “most of the penalties can be eliminated with better technique.”

With Junction City (1-4) as the opponent tonight, Prescott has been concentrating this week on ways to defend against their passing attack as well as their risk-taking defense. “Junction City has a quarterback that can extend plays and will pose a challenge for our defense to contain him,” Glass said. “The Junction City defense is aggressive and flies to the football as good as anyone in our conference.  They will be in a 5-0 front most of the time.”

Junction City is the second conference opponent Prescott will take on. Gurdon was also in Prescott's 3A Region 5 conference.

Playing three games in a row has landed a few Curley Wolves on the injury list, but some will be coming back tonight. “Jaylen Young will be returning after a high ankle sprain in the scrimmage game. Colton Arnold has a deep bruise in his thigh and will be a game time decision. Lucas Standridge and Jah'Noah Harris will be out this week,” Glass said.

Prescott’s hosting of the Junction City Dragons takes place at Cummins Field with kickoff at 7:00 p.m. tonight.
