Arkansas Adds Talented Menifield from Transfer Portal

By Otis Kirk

FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas has started the process of rebuilding its roster for the 2023-24 season with Eric Musselman reaching into the transfer portal to land University of Washington freshman point guard Keyon Menifield.

Menifield, 6-1, 150, announced his decision to choose Arkansas on social media Tuesday. Menifield averaged 10.0 points, 3.1 assists, 2.9 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.7 turnovers in 28.6 minutes per game while shooting 41.0% field goals, including 33.0 from 3, and 69.8 free throws in 2022-23.

He was the only Husky to play in all 32 games this season with 21 starts. He was named to the ’22-23 Pac-12 All Freshman team.

He chose the Razorbacks over Alabama, Tennessee, Louisville, Ohio State, and a return to Washington. Menifield will have three years of remaining playing eligibility that begins immediately in the upcoming season.

While a point guard, Menifield also has a good offensive game. He had five games of scoring 20 or more points including 27 against Oregon. Menifield scored in double figures 15 times, including 12 times once Pac-12 play began. He had nine games of five or more assists and he notched 10 games of two or more steals.

Menifield is the second guard Musselman has added to his recruiting class. He joins Wichita (Kan.) Sunrise Christian five-star guard Layden Blocker, 6-3, 175, who inked with the Hogs in November. Blocker previously played at Little Rock Christian. Musselman also signed Denver (Color.) Accelerated Schools five-star center Baye Fall, 6-10, 205. Sophomore forward Trevon Brazile also has announced his intentions to return to the Hogs.

So far Nick Smith Jr. and Ricky Council IV have declared for the 2023 NBA Draft. Davonte "Devo" Davis also has declared for the draft, but won't hire an agent thus keeping the option of him returning to Arkansas alive. Anthony Black is expected to announce his intentions to enter the draft in the coming days as well.
