BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Racing in front of a crowd that totaled 38,843 fans on a sun-splashed Saturday at the Penn Relays Carnival, the Arkansas 4 x 1500 relay produced a historic moment that will not soon be forgotten by all those who viewed the Razorbacks encounter with North Carolina State.
Arkansas claimed the victory in 16:53.87 with a line-up of Isabel Van Camp (4:16.8), Logan Jolly (4:13.9), Lauren Gregory (4:12.5), and Krissy Gear (4:10.7), and earned a share of the SEC women’s Runner of the Week honor along with LSU sprinter Favour Ofili.
Both the Razorbacks and NC State (16:55.19) bettered the previous collegiate and meet record of 17:08.34 established in 2009 by Tennessee. Arkansas also ranks No. 2 on the U.S. all-time list and No. 3 on the World all-time list.
Behind the Razorback’s stellar performance, NC State produced the best-mark-for-place as runner-up while becoming No. 2 on the collegiate all-time list, No. 3 on the U.S. all-time list, and No. 4 on the World all-time list.
Ole Miss (17:24.46) and Indiana (17:25.00) finished third and fourth, while teams placing fifth through eighth place, which included BYU (17:29.45), Georgetown (17:32.97), Wisconsin (17:34.43), and Tennessee (17:39.48), also delivered best-marks-for-place in the event.
