Arkansas Democrats: Arkansas awarded $96 million for 19 flood control projects

PRESS RELEASE

LITTLE ROCK - Arkansas is set to receive the largest federal investment of any state in the nation for new flood control projects thanks to historic infrastructure investments by Congressional Democrats and President Joe Biden. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service has announced that Arkansas will receive $96 million for 19 flood control projects across the state.

“This is about protecting our homes, our towns, our roads and bridges, our industry, and our farmland. This is about investing in people’s lives. The flooding I have seen, in my own lifetime, has been devastating, and the impacts endure,” said Rep. Reginald Murdock of Marianna.

“The people who live in these areas know these types of projects simply can’t be put on hold any longer. That’s why this announcement is so important to recognize. As a state, we have a real partner in the Biden White House. When we have that partnership, it can make all the difference,” Representative Murdock said.

“Thousands of Arkansans will breathe easier knowing that historic investments in flood control projects are coming to our state. This is what good government can do. When we have leaders who care about solving problems and are focused on investing in Arkansas instead of dividing us, real progress is possible,” said DPA Chair Grant Tennille.

“While this is great news for Arkansas, it’s worth noting that not a single one of our state’s Republican Congressional members voted to support this money for flood control. They have been trained to say ‘no,’ no matter the cost to families back home. We deserve better out of them and those offices.”

Arkansas’s new flood control investments are funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed in November of 2021. Although President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan received bipartisan support in both chambers of the U.S. Congress, every member of the all-Republican Arkansas Congressional delegation voted against the law.
