Arkansas Republican legislators voted overwhelmingly for the controversial “LEARNS” voucher scam, which sends public tax dollars to the very small minority of Arkansas parents enrolling their children in private or religious schools. Most Arkansas communities, especially rural ones, do not have a single private school. The bill was passed on a party-line vote in both chambers, with every Democratic member opposing the handout to mostly wealthy families and opaque special interests. “Governor Sarah Sanders called her voucher scam ‘bold,’” Watson said. “It’s incredibly ‘bold’ to steal hundreds of millions of dollars in public funding from the public schools used by 95% of Arkansans families and send that money to unaccountable private schools that don’t have to release their test scores, their salaries, or whether they accept students with disabilities.” The direct mail campaign unveiled by the Democrats educates voters about the records of eleven Republican incumbent House members who voted yes on the LEARNS voucher bill:
- Rep. DeAnna Hodges, Springdale
- Rep. Mindy McAlindon, Bentonville
- Rep. John Carr, Rogers
- Rep. Steve Unger, Springdale
- Rep. Jack Ladyman, Jonesboro
- Rep. Matt Brown, Conway
- Rep. Mark McElroy, Marianna
- Rep. Karilyn Brown, Sherwood
- Rep. Carlton Wing, North Little Rock
- Rep. Brandon Achor, Maumelle
- Rep. Keith Brooks, Little Rock
