Arkansas Heart Hospital Named One of World’s Best Specialized Hospitals

2022 Marks Fourth Consecutive Year on Newsweek List

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Dec. 29, 2021) – For the fourth consecutive year, Arkansas Heart Hospital (AHH) has been named one of the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals. Newsweek awarded the 2022 designation to AHH for its cardiology and cardiac surgery.

“This ranking reaffirms our strong track record of providing innovative, high-quality services,” said Dr. Bruce Murphy, CEO. “From hiring the most accomplished physicians to deploying groundbreaking surgical methods, we remain committed to delivering world-class care.”

AHH continues to solidify its standing as a global leader with unprecedented medical procedures, interventions, technologies and devices. In 2021 alone, it became the first hospital in the world to leverage Biomodex, a 3D printing solution, for a patient-specific case when Dr. Wesley Lane performed a rehearsal for a hole in the heart. Under the leadership of Dr. William Rollefson, it was also the first facility in the southern U.S. to use Abbott's Portico with a FlexNav transcatheter aortic valve replacement system. In firsts for Arkansas, Dr. Daniel Sherbet used CoroFlow, a system that detects abnormalities in the heart’s smallest arteries, and Dr. Ian Cawich’s team enrolled a patient in its Abbott LIFE-BTK clinical trial for peripheral arterial disease. In addition, Drs. Vijay Raja and Anton Lishmanov pioneered the use of TandemHeart, a circulatory support device, for complex coronary interventions.

In partnership with Statistica, Newsweek compiled its World’s Best Specialized Hospitals list by analyzing facilities that focus on cardiology; endocrinology; gastroenterology; oncology; neurology; orthopedics; pediatric & adolescent medicine; cardiac surgery; neurosurgery; and pulmonology. Together, they invited more than 40,000 medical experts—including doctors, hospital managers and health care professionals—in over 20 countries to recommend and assess various hospitals within their respective specializations. The survey results were then validated by a global board of renowned medical experts.
