Arkansas Lands Transfer Wide Receiver

FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas has landed former Toledo wide receiver Matt Landers.

Landers, 6-5, 200, took an official visit to Arkansas May 11-12. At that time he stated he was down to the Hogs, Miami (Fla.) and Auburn. He committed to the Hogs on Sunday and then talked about why.

“Really just a great fit,” Landers said. “Great organization. Great offensive coordinator, great receivers coach and great staff. Like I said just familiar faces.”

Among the familiar faces he referred to is Sam Pittman, Arkansas' head coach. At Toledo in 2021, Landers caught 20 passes for 514 yards and five touchdowns. Prior to that Landers spent three seasons at Georgia and played in 25 games. In 2020, Landers grabbed 10 passes for 105 yards. Pittman was an assistant coach with the Bulldogs Landers' first two seasons in Athens.

An oddity of sorts is Landers caught two passes for 27 yards on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, in a 37-10 victory against Arkansas in Pittman's debut as head coach of the Razorbacks. Now, Landers will be on the home sidelines this season though not something he was thinking about in 2020.

“No, I never thought that,” Landers said. “But things happen and I’m just looking to the future.”

Landers will report to Arkansas later this month and play this fall. He joins former Oklahoma wide receiver Jadon Haselwood as transfer newcomers at that position. Both will be counted on to help replace Treylon Burks, who is now with the Tennessee Titans.
