LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (May 15, 2025) – Arkansas Virtual Academy (ARVA), a tuition-free, online K-12 public charter school powered by K12, has been nationally recognized once again for creating a learning environment where relationships come first. For the second year in a row, all three schools — ARVA Elementary, ARVA Middle School and ARVA High School — have been named Capturing Kids' Hearts® National Showcase Schools for the 2024–2025 school year.
ARVA's three schools were among 867 campuses nationwide selected for the award, which celebrates schools that go above and beyond in building a culture of empathy, trust and student-centered support.
The Capturing Kids’ Hearts framework is designed to strengthen school culture through meaningful interactions, social-emotional skill building and relationship-driven teaching practices. Schools selected for National Showcase status must demonstrate excellence in implementing the program’s principles, supported by measurable outcomes and feedback from staff and students.
"What makes this honor so meaningful is that it reflects the intentional work happening across every virtual classroom — in every grade and every interaction," ARVA Executive Director Amy Johnson said. "Strong relationships and social-emotional learning are the heart of everything we do. This recognition reflects our shared commitment to cultivating a connected school community — one where students feel supported, valued and ready to grow.”
In a fully online setting, ARVA educators prioritize connection just as much as content — integrating tools and practices that help students feel seen, valued and engaged. From daily interactions to schoolwide practices, the CKH process has become an essential part of how ARVA fosters belonging and well-being across its learning community.
As a statewide public charter school, ARVA serves students in grades K–12 with an innovative virtual learning model designed to meet individual needs. Its continued recognition from Capturing Kids’ Hearts underscores the school’s commitment not just to academic achievement but to the emotional and social foundations that help students thrive.
