MAUMELLE, Ark. — On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, around 5:45 p.m., Arkansas State Police (ASP) responded to a 911 call from a witness who stated two vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed and driving erratically on Interstate 40 westbound near the 147-mile marker.
Troopers were able to locate and stop both vehicles in Maumelle. During the investigation, Troopers determined that the driver of one of the vehicles, Charles Pope, 47, of Mayflower, had deliberately struck the other vehicle, driven by a 36-year-old Little Rock woman.
Troopers arrested Pope and transported him to the Pulaski County Detention Center, where he was charged with Felony Aggravated Assault. Pope could face up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.
"When aggressive drivers can’t manage frustration, it can lead to altercations, property damage, assaults, and collisions, resulting in serious physical injuries or even death," said ASP Col. Mike Hagar. "Troopers are actively seeking out aggressive drivers and will pull them over to protect innocent motorists on Arkansas highways."
