March 2, 2024 ASP's Criminal Investigation Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting fatality that occurred Friday, March 1, 2024, in Eureka Springs.Carroll County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) Dispatch Center received a 911 call from the Rowdy Beaver Den, 47 Spring Street in Eureka Springs, advising that Christopher Vanschoick, 36, had brandished a handgun during a disturbance.Two Eureka Springs Police Department (ESPD) officers arrived at the location and observed Vanschoick sitting in his vehicle on the street near the Rowdy Beaver Den. The officers confronted Vanschoick, and a struggle ensued.Vanschoick produced a handgun, and one of the officers fired his weapon, striking Vanschoick.Vanschoick was pronounced dead by the Carrol County coroner's office. His body will be transferred to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory (ASCL) to determine the cause and manner of death.ASP will present an investigative case file to the prosecuting attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law.
