At noon today, an awards banquet for city employees was held at the Prescott Senior Center. Attendees dined on barbecue sandwiches, cheeseburger sliders, pork chops and many side items as Prescott Mayor Terry Oliver called out the numbers for door prizes. These included restaurant gift cards as well as tickets to Haybarn Championship Wrestling bouts.
Perry Nelson, retiring Prescott Water and Wastewater Superintendent, was recognized for his 48 years of service to the city. Then DQ Hopper was recognized as hardest working man and praised for his social media acumen.
All nominees for Newcomer of the Year and Employee of the Year were asked to stand and be applauded.
Newcomer of the Year for 2024 was awarded to Shytavia Hopper. During her speech, she said “Thank you,” and of her co-workers at the front reception area of the city’s offices in the Prescott Senior Center, she added “We’ve all grown a bond in there.”
Employee of the Year for 2024 was awarded to Shanta Wiley, who has worked in several offices, including Prescott Water and Light and the Youth Center. She said, “We all work hard. I love how we work as a team. We help each other out. We’re just like a big family.”
Wiley said December 26th would be Prescott Office Manager Bruce Bean’s birthday, and she was successful in coaxing the attendees to sing “Happy Birthday” in his honor.
