Backroad Rollover Results in DWI

It was almost 11 p.m. Tuesday night when a Prescott resident riding back roads came upon a man attempting to climb out of the rear window of his overturned truck on Hempstead 207, near the Nevada County Line. The woman said she wasn't sure what to do, so she called 911 and stopped to try to help him.

Hempstead County Deputies, Blevins Firefighters and a crew from Pafford EMS were dispatched to the 500 block of Hempstead 207, just north of the intersection with Hempstead 215. They located the caller and found Jimmy Johnson, 46, of Hope, out of his Chevrolet S-10 and apparently uninjured.

Johnson was traveling south on Hempstead 207 when he apparently lost traction and swerved across the gravel road. Skid marks from his driver side tires show his left sside slipped off of the road surface and his truck went into a spin. The truck left the road, facing back to the north and rolled when it impacted the embankment, barely avoiding impact with one tree and coming to rest inclined against another.

When deputies spoke with Johnson about the crash, he told them that he wasn't going to lie and admitted to having some drink earlier. Johnson refused to take a field sobriety test and was placed under arrest for DWI. Johnson complied and walked with Deputy Garner to his Tahoe and was transported to the Hempstead County Detention Center for DWI and driving on a suspended license.
