Baptist Health Hosts Free National Diabetes Prevention Program
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. –  If you have prediabetes or other risk factors for type 2 diabetes, a free online program available through Baptist Health Community Outreach called the National Diabetes Prevention Program – or National DPP – can help you improve your health.

Classes start virtually on Monday, March 4, and registration runs through then. Participants must be 18 or older and have a BMI of 25 or higher and an A1C of between 5.7-6.4 or a Diabetes Risk Assessment of 5 or higher.

The National Diabetes Prevention Program is an evidence-based program where participants work together in a small group to learn about healthier eating and increasing physical activity in order to reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. It is recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Features of the lifestyle change program include:

  • A trained lifestyle coach who provides dedicated, on-on-one support
  • Curriculum approved by the CDC
  • A small online community providing encouragement and creating accountability with the same goals and objectives
  • Smart tools for ease and convenience of tracking data and process

About 98 million American adults, or more than 1 in 3, have prediabetes. More than 8 in 10 adults with prediabetes don’t know they have it.

Participants who lost 5-7% of their body weight reduced their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58%, according to the CDC.

For more information and to register in our local program, call (501) 202-1540. Details regarding how to join each virtual session will be provided upon registration.
