Spring Hill scored 21 points in the fourth quarter and needed every one of them to force overtime, as they outscored the Pirates 21-14 in the fourth.
The Bears were down 10 at around the three-minute mark Tuesday. So Coach Kidd called a timeout, and the Bears went on a 9-0 run in the next minute or so to make it a ballgame again. Down two points, Putz took the ball, drove left and pulled up from about 10 feet out and nailed the game-tying shot.
The Bears would fall just short of earning their first win of the year, with the game ending 68-66. Andrew Wylie led the Bears with 18 points, including some big buckets late in the game. Jackson Putz and Maverick Mills each had 11 points, and Austin Stone had 10 points and played great around the rim of both sides of the ball.
Spring Hill travels to Ouachita on Thursday.
