All these projects are unique as are the students. They were a little bashful while telling everyone in the room about what they have been working on but they did well.
Yanely Azanea and Angeline Amaya talked about their lost and found project., saying, “We go during class periods and search for things that have been lost. Then we return them back to our rack, put the hangers on them so that people can find their list items more easily."
Keychains, Chunky Blankets, Recycling, Hope Sacks and Happy Birthday sacks were among the many projects these bright kids have created.
“We have a process of making sure each project is completely filled by using a cart. Every little cart has to be filled, and then you have a complete project, whether it's for the school or working with the community. We're working with the hospital; we make little gift bags for kids who sit in the waiting area of the ER. Other projects were here at campus, which keeps the campus clean. We are sweeping the yard. I have boys who go out during my class period, and once a week they sweep the yard. We have another group that does trash pick-up. We have another group that recycles paper for our schools,” BHE EAST Facilitator Tammy Lawrence said.
Administrative assistant Kimberly McMahan of the Hope Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce spent time talking with the kiddos and said, “This is such a great program, and I am excited to hear about each one of these projects. I know these students will continue to do great things in the future.”
