Joe Purvis and the LLC Band perform at THE HUB Thursday night as a couple young dancers feel the rhythm.
Right at 7 p.m. last night the LLC band began its set. Lead vocalist, Hope native, legendary attorney and aide to President Clinton Joe Purvis was in good voice, taking the audience of as many as 120--by Klipsch Heritage Museum Association Exective Director Beckie Moore's count--through hits by Van Morrison, The Beatles, Wilson Pickett, Delbert McClinton and Kenny Chesney.
Their encore was the song "Goodnight My Love," whose bridge was written by and then recorded by San Antonio singer Jesse Belvin, who died February 6, 1960 in a tragic car crash near Fulton. The song's intricate arrangement with lots of interaction among soloists was especially striking.
The concert was part of a late springtime promotion of downtown Hope that involved the live production of art by local painters Jason Campbell and Jennifer Block, Executive Director of the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council and the continued opening of several downtown businesses into the evening.
