Blevins Track Teams Go To District: Senior Girls’ Team Is Runner-Up

The Blevins High School Girls’ Track Team is the 7-1A Conference Runner-Up after junior and senior teams, boys and girls, traveled to Mineral Springs Wednesday for the district meet. The senior girls’ team won three of the four relays and earned high points by placing in various races and field events. The senior boys’ team also had a good showing with wins in races and field events. Now, nine total athletes, boys and girls, will continue on to the State Track Meet in Mineral Springs on Monday. Three of these athletes are ninth graders who, just that morning, competed in their last junior high meet. Coach Scott Kelton shared with SWARK.Today the possibilities of success at the up-coming state meet. Kelton said, “I feel really good about our chances at state. I believe all of our athletes have the chance to place and earn points in all of their events. All of us at Blevins High School are very proud of the hard work these kids have put in this year to become the successful athletes they are.” 

The following is the approximate schedule of events and the team members who qualified to compete at Monday’s State Track Meet in Mineral Springs. In order to qualify, these students either placed first or second at the district meet, or met a specific goal at an earlier meet.

10:30  Girls Long Jump - Takeyla Williamson

  3:30  Girls High Jump - Allison Bonner

  5:30  For each of the final races, girls will run first, then boys

4x200 Relay - Allison Bonner, Takeyla Williamson, Emily Dougan, Marcasja Glenn

The junior high teams had a good day, as well. District meets are the last meets of the year for these athletes. The boys won the 4x800 relay (Grant Hudman, Javier Gomez, Javier Hernandez, and Jackson Putz), and the same boys placed second in the 4x400 relay. Jackson Putz placed second in the 800 Meter, Javier Gomez placed second in 1600 Meter, and Charles Hatchett placed third in Shot Put, Discus, and High Jump. For the girls, top point earners were Takeyla Williamson in second for the 200 Meter and third in Long Jump, Aniyah Muresan in third for the 300m hurdles, and Audrey Lovette in third for the 800 Meter and the 1600 meter. Also, the girls placed second in the 4x800 Relay ( Ana Hernandez, Alexa Hernandez, Kayla Diaz, Kristina McKenzie).

Coach Kelton had good things to say about the junior team, as well. Kelton said, “These kids did great today and I can’t wait to see what they do next year. They will only get stronger and faster.” 

All in all, it was a good day for all of the athletes who traveled to the District Track Meet in Mineral Springs. The Blevins High School Track Team will travel to Mineral Springs Monday for the State Track Meet. Events start at 9:00 am.
