Blue Jays Advance to Regional Finals After Beating Blevins 73-69 in Semifinals
Kirby- In their third matchup of the year, Nevada and Blevins gave everyone in attendance a game for the ages, as once again this matchup came down to the wire. In a game that saw multiple lead changes, runs by both teams, and just excellent performances from multiple players, it came down to a 69-69 score with under a 40 seconds remaining. Keyonte Wingfield drove by his defender and found freshman Monti Mixon for a layup to give Nevada a 2 point advantage. On the following possession, Mixon would go up for an impressive block, and the loose ball would result in a jump ball, possession arrow to Nevada. Brogan Rhodes would be fouled on the inbounds play, setting up the biggest free throws of the year thus far for Nevada. Rhodes would sink both, as he did not shy away from the moment to ice the game, and send Nevada to the Regional Finals. After the game, Coach Bell spoke on those final moments of the game, "Brogan came through knocked down the biggest free throws of the season and Monti got a big bucket to get us the lead then had a tremendous block at the end of the ballgame."

How we got to those final moments of this thriller of a game, was great offense by both teams, with players getting bucket after bucket in big situations. Great shooting from 3pt range from both teams, as Kavion Coleman and Rilee Faulkner both knocked down four 3's, Keyonte Wingfield would also hit three 3-pointers. Charles Hatchett had a pair of ferocious dunks and Monti Mixon and Brogan Rhodes each had big time blocks. Xavier Bazzelle showcased his craftiness on the court and De Page did a lot of scoring for Blevins. Kobe Hughey made big plays for Nevada all game and Justin Myrick hit a couple big 3's. Just excellent play all over the court on Friday, in what more than likely was the best game in 1A across the state. After the game Brogan Rhodes spoke the on Blue Jays win and him knocking down free throws late, "We came into this knowing it was going to be a tough game, the crowd gave us a lot of energy.... just stayed calm try to drown the crowd out of my head and just focus and make them."

The backcourt for the Blue Jays combined to score 54 points, as Kavion Coleman and Keyonte Wingfield both went for 27 points, as they continue to show why they are considered by many the best guard duo in 1A, not only on offense, but the defensive side of the ball as well. "You know its a blessing when you have two guards that can go and get you 27, those guys work really hard all year round and it shows," Coach Bell said as he spoke on the duo of Wingfield and Coleman. Wingfield also led the team in assists with 7 and both guards added 4 rebounds each. Kobe Hughey poured in 8 points for Nevada, as he continues to do whatever it takes for the Jays to win. Justin Myrick knocked down two 3's for six points, Monti Mixon scored 3 points and Brogan Rhodes two points were huge, as they were the ones that sealed the deal for the Jays. Rhodes also led the Jays in rebounding with 7 boards. Caleb Moss did not get a bucket, but he got after it all game long, and made mulitple winning plays. After the game Bell spoke on Caleb Moss, "Caleb Moss once again was a warrior, getting thrown on the floor, jumping through walls, couldn't ask for a better group of guys."

De Page for Blevins was equally as impressive, scoring 27 points for the Hornets, as he led the way offensively. Page tormented Nevada early on, witih 20 points in the first half. Rilee Faulkner scored 18 points, as he shot the ball extremely well. Xavier Bazzelle had 11 points, as well as did a great job finding open teammates. Charles Hatchett scored 7 and Javier Gomez and Sean Rohan each scored 3 points.

Nevada will play Lafayette Co. in the Regional Finals at 7:30. Blevins will face Columbia Christian at 1:30 for 3rd place in the Region.
