"We did what we needed to do, its nice to get out here and face someone that isn't us, we've had some intense practices lately, they were ready to get out and play. A real quality oppenent in Columbia, probably a regional tourney team, feels good to get our first win," Coach Eddie Beck said on Friday after the game.
Sophomore Monti Mixon had a great night, as he finished with 19 points and brought down 15 rebounds for his 1st double-double of the year, while adding a pair of blocks at the rim. Kobe Hughey poured in 19 points, as he was getting to his spot whenever he wanted, all while grabbing 9 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists. Floor general Keyonte Wingfield added 15 points, 3 assists, and played some great on ball defense. Jakari "Taco" Roberson scored 6 points in his varsity debut. Hurk Burns knocked down a 3-pointer and grabbed 9 rebounds.
"We came into the game knowing they were going to be a good team and we came out ready to play, we've been working on our defense and preparing all week," Monti Mixon said after the game. The defense played very well, holding CCS to under 50 points in this one, forcing some turnovers, and finishing off possessions rebounding the ball.
Nevada is back in action on Tuesday night as they host Bradley.
