Nevada jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter behind 10 points from Keyonte Wingfield in the opening quarter. Kirby really outplayed the Jays in the 2nd quarter, cutting the Nevada lead to 30-25 at the break. Nevada would go on to outscore the Trojans by 5 in the 2nd half, as they closed out the game very well, going 8/10 from the FT line in the 4th quarter to clinch the game, as Kav Coleman, Caleb Moss, and Kobe Hughey knocked down some big ones in the final minutes of the game. "Big conference win, defense got it going down the stretch, they wanted it more in the 2nd quarter, but we got it together in the second half," Kavion Coleman said after the Blue Jays win Thursday night.
Keyonte Wingfield was huge for Nevada on Thursday, as he torched the nets for 20 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished out 2 assists. Kav Coleman fought through a box-and-1 all game, and scored 16 points, including 6 points in the 4th quarter. Coleman also added 5 boards. Kobe Hughey poured in 7 points, led the team with 5 assists, and had 5 rebounds. Caleb Moss showcased a winning brand of basketball with 6 points and 10 rebounds. Monti Mixon and Brogan Rhodes each scored 4 points, Mixon had 12 rebounds and Rhodes added 5. Justin Myrick knocked down a big 3-pointer when the Jays were searching for a bucket in 2nd quarter.
With the win, the Jays are now 10-1 in conference play and will host Blevins for 1st place in the conference on Tuesday night.
