Blue Jays Complete Epic Comeback Against Nashville in 60-59 Thriller as Freshman Monti Mixon Hits GW Shot
Nevada- The Blue Jays spotted Nashville a 20-4 lead after the opening quarter, in a whatever could go wrong, went wrong first quarter for the Jays. Nevada would outscore Nashville in every quarter the rest of the game, as they did a great job of chipping away at the deficit. Nevada cut the lead down to 10 points at the half and outscored Nashville by 5 in the 3rd quarter to make it very manageable to complete the comeback. Nashville would not go quietly, as they continued to answer in the fourth, but a big shot by Justin Myrick late in the fourth got Nevada the lead 58-57. The Scrappers would get a bucket late on a busted play, giving the Blue Jays a chance to win the game trailing 59-58. Nevada would take the ball out at the baseline, Kav Coleman would lob freshman Monti Mixon the ball, and Mixon took care of the rest, hitting the game-winning shot (should have been an and-1 as Mixon was hacked while shooting the ball). The arena erupted and Blue Jay Nation let everyone in the gym know who just completed a massive comeback victory. After the game I spoke with Justin Myrick on the teams comeback win, "We played hard, we played back on defense, we got good shots in the end and just made the comeback."

Nevada showed great grit and resilience on Wednesday night, as they mounted an 18-point comeback on a very good, athletic Nashville team. "It feels like a fresh start to get this win tonight, Nashville is a really good ball club, we lost the game Monday that we should have won, we got our butts kicked Tuesday against Mills and our guys had every chance to just come out and lay down but they didn't, they fought hard and came out with a big win, really proud of our guys tonight," Coach Mario Bell said as he spoke on the teams comeback win.

Keyonte Wingfield led all scorers on Wednesday with 18 points. Wingfield also added 8 assists and 5 rebounds. Kavion Coleman scored 13 points off the bench, as he was a +16 in the +/- category. Coleman also grabbed 9 rebounds. Justin Myrick had himself a great shooting night, knocking down four 3-pointers, 3 of which came in the second half. After the game Coach Bell had this to say about Justin's timely shots, "Justin's been working hard, getting up extra shots, staying late and it paid off tonight." Kobe Hughey had a great night as well, scoring 10 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. Hughey got in a little foul trouble, but he played a huge part in the comeback, as his second quarter really gave the Jays the shot of life they needed to cut the deficit down before the half. Brogan Rhodes finished the night with 2 points, rebounds, and 1 busted eye, as he looked like he went a few rounds with Mike Tyson after the game. Monti Mixon was in foul trouble all game, but the made the most of his 2 points, as they were at the right time on Wednesday, knocking down the GW shot with no time remaining. Caleb Moss scored 1 point, grabbed 9 rebounds, and played extremely hard all game long, as he was near every loose ball throughout the game as well. Great team win, it took a collective effort from all these guys to complete a comeback in a tough environment against a really good Scrappers team.

The Blue Jays will face Acorn on Saturday in the Nashville Classic at 4pm.
