The opening quarter got off to a slow start offensively for the Jays, but Kav Coleman erupted for 14 points in the 1st quarter including three 3-pointers. The defense was the key, as the Blue Jays did an excellent job of forcing turnovers that led to easy buckets. Nevada would extend their lead at the half to 30 points, as they outscored the Bears 18-2 in the second quarter. The game was on cruise control after that, as Nevada would win the game 65-14.Â
Kav finished the game with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists. Coleman has now scored 20+ points in each of his first 5 games this season. Rico Aparicio scored a season-high 9 points, including multiple nice finishes at the rim using his left. Aparicio added 4 boards and 2 assists. Keyonte Wingfield did a great job controlling the tempo of the game for the Jays, scoring 3 points, dishing out 5 assists, and picking the Bears pockets for 5 steals on the defensive end of the floor, as the on-ball defense of Wingfield is top-notch. After the game, Coach Mario Bell had this to say about his junior guard, "I appreciate Keyonte Wingfield, he is stepping up as a leader and he does everything we need him to do for this team. He can go out and give us 20 points or he can dish out 8 assists, His defense and just presence on the floor is a game-changer for us." Justin Myrick knocked down a pair of three-pointers and added a layup for 8 points. Kobe Hughey added 4 points and 4 rebounds, Hurkills Burns had 4 points and 3 steals, Tristan Griffith added 4 points, while Monti Mixon, Caleb Moss, and Reid Casey each had 2 points.Â
Big win for the Jays on Tuesday night as they improved to 5-0, as the season is well underway in Nevada. Next up for the Jays is the Devil-Dogs from Morrilton.
