Blue Jays Get 20-Point Win Over Mineral Springs
Nevada- A bit of a slow start for the Jays (16-7, 6-1) offensively on Thursday night, as the offense did not make a basket until after the 4-minute mark of the game. Thankfully, the Nevada defense did a great job not allowing Mineral Springs to get on the scoreboard either til after around 5 minutes into the opening quarter. Justin Myrick came off the bench and nailed two quick 3-pointers to get the Jays rolling and Kav Coleman followed that up with 11 consecutive points, including 3 treys, totaling five 3-pointers in the final 4 minutes of the first quarter. "Justin Myrick did a great job getting us started, once one hit we all starting hitting and everybody got hot from there," senior Kav Coleman said on Myricks big shots early that got the offense rolling.

The offense was pretty consistent the remainder of the game, as the Blue Jays would score 18 in the 2nd quarter, 14 in the 3rd, and finished the game with 18 points in the final quarter of the game to win 67-47.

The Nevada defense did a great job keeping a very athletic team from getting on big scoring runs, as they kept the Hornets under 50 points. "When our defense is locked in they can be very difficult to score against," Coach Eddie Beck said after the Blue Jays win. Great on-ball defense from Keyonte Wingfield, Coleman, and Kobe Hughey. In the paint, Brogan Rhodes did a great job, drawing three charges throughout the game, Monti Mixon continues to be a big-time rim protector, and Caleb Moss does a great job flying around, diving for loose balls, and really just being an excellent defender. "When you hustle and get after it good things happen and that is what Caleb Moss gives you on the court," Beck said as he spoke on Moss' performance on Thursday.

The Blue Jays offense was led by Kav Coleman, as he finished the night with 23 points, 18 of which came in the first half. Coleman knocked down 5 3's in the game. Kobe Hughey scored 9 points and did a great job dishing out assists, including a nice lob to Coleman in the first quarter. Freshman Monti Mixon scored 8 points, Justin Myrick added 6 points, Caleb Moss and Rico Aparicio each scored 5, and Brogan Rhodes and Keyonte Wingfield each scored 4 points.

"Feels good to get a win, we had to shake off a little rust early but once we got rolling we played pretty well, Justin came in got us going and once we saw those go in we got going. Defensively once they focus in we're a tough team to get going against," Eddie Beck said after game.

Nevada is now sitting at 6-1 in conference play and will travel to Oden next Tuesday for another conference matchup.
