Blue Jays' Great Season Comes to an End as they Fall Just Short of State Title
Hot Springs- In front of around 2,400 people in attendance on Saturday afternoon, the Nevada Blue Jays took on Marked Tree in the 1A State Championship Game. The Jays started off slow as Marked Tree jumped out to a 19-8 lead after the opening quarter. Nevada cut into the lead as the Jays went on a 8-0 run in the second quarter, but the Indians went on a run to extend the lead to 33-16 at the half.

The Blue Jays began the second half down 17. They played very well, outscoring the Indians 12-10 in the third quarter, and in the fourth got the lead down to 11 at one point. Marked Tree always seemed to make a basket or get a second-chance put-back when they needed it. The Jays would fall 66-43 and their great season would come to an end.

Nevada was led offensively by Brycten Harris and Kavion Coleman as they each scored 14 points to lead the Jays. Harris would shoot 3-4 from three-point range. Coleman would grab 5 rebounds for Nevada. Kobe Hughey would score 8 points for Nevada, as he knocked down two 3-pointers. Keyonte Wingfield added 5 points and Cardiare Adair would score 2. Adair would add 5 rebounds.

First year Head Coach Jamario Bell had a beyond impressive first season as he began his era at Nevada with a trip to the State Championship, and now a return trip next season in his sights. To the seniors on this team, Brycten Harris, Cardiare Adair, BJ Evans, and Nihjae Nolen, this was a great season and a big part was the leadership that these guys have displayed. The hard work and determination this team has shown all season has been admirable. Congratulations to the Blue Jays for a great season.
