Breanna Haddix has been selected to participate in the 2025 Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program.
The Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program is an eight-week paid summer internship and mentoring opportunity for high school students, sponsored by the American Fisheries Society (AFS). Its mission is to stimulate interest in fisheries and aquatic sciences among underrepresented groups in the profession. Participating students receive a $3,000 stipend and hands-on experience working with fisheries professionals.

Miss Haddix will work with Arkansas Game and Fish Commission mentor, Mr. Dylan Hann. This opportunity is the result of Breanna’s goal-setting, initiative, dedication, perseverance, and patience. After sharing her goals with her Family and Consumer Sciences teacher and her Ouachita Baptist University–Upward Bound satellite instructor, Mrs. Linda Benton, Breanna was encouraged to contact the Game and Fish Commission.

After making connections, she was given the opportunity to shadow Mr. Hann, who informed her about available opportunities and scholarships. In November 2024, Breanna submitted her application.

Breanna is a graduating senior at Prescott High School with a 3.7 grade point average. After high school, she plans to attend Southern Arkansas University to major in Wildlife Conservation Biology with a minor in Entrepreneurship.

As a student leader, she has been a member of the Wolf Pride Band for six years and currently serves as the trumpet section leader. She is also a four-year member of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), where she served as chapter president and Arkansas Association Region V Vice President of Membership and Community Service.

Under her leadership, the chapter hosted the Chamber Community Coffee, set up a booth for Trick or Treat on Elm Street, prepared a meal for veterans on Veterans Day, and organized a food drive for the local food bank. Breanna also serves as a Senior Class Representative.

She lives in Emmet, Arkansas, with her mom, stepdad, and two younger siblings. Breanna frequently volunteers with the Emmet Vision Association (EVA), a local group that plans and coordinates community events such as the Emmet Fall Festival and Fourth of July Celebration.

During Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend, Breanna earned six hours of community service by volunteering at the Community Health Fair in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
