Breast Cancer Warriors: We Salute You

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Join us as we take this opportunity to:

  1. Honor fighters, survivors and those who have lost their lives. To those who battle breast cancer, or have in the past, we honor and support you by fighting alongside you on the front lines and by increasing awareness.

  2. Discuss early detection.Along with a healthy diet and lifestyle, regular self-breast exams and annual mammograms (for women who are 40+) can help increase early detection, especially since many women show no symptoms. Age, family history and genetics are also considerations.

  3. Share signs and symptoms. The most common symptom of breast cancer is a new lump or mass on the breast or underarm. Others include breast irritation, swelling, dimpling, pain or change of size/shape, and nipple redness, flaking, pulling in, pain or discharge.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, and in 2021, about 2,650 cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in men. If you or a loved one is experiencing any of these symptoms, visit your Steward Health Care provider immediately.
