Little Rock:Â
Citizens for Arkansas Public Education and Students (CAPES) is very excited to announce its endorsement by two major organizations in the state, the Arkansas State NAACP and the Arkansas Education Association. “Both of these statewide groups have a strong history of fighting for the right thing to be done in our state and communities. We’re humbled to have their endorsements,” stated Nancy Fancyboy, CAPES External Communications Director. “We’ll always welcome endorsements from organizations that are passionate about public schools and students. What’s sad is that those organizations and CAPES have to stand between our elected officials and our students.”
This week marks the final push of CAPES to get the required signatures in order to allow the People of Arkansas to decide if LEARNS is the right education law for our students and communities. Given the 94% weekly average increase of signatures gained starting six weeks prior, getting the required number of signatures is entirely within reach of the group.Â
Because the legislature passed a law increasing the required number of canvassing counties from 15 to 50 to intentionally make it more difficult for citizens to be successful when utilizing their constitutionally-guaranteed right to redress a law passed by the General Assembly, a group’s volunteers will always be spread thinly across the state. This is the case with CAPES. Despite having hundreds of volunteers, more people on the ground are needed this week.
