ARKADELPHIA, Ark. â The Division of Music in Ouachita Baptist Universityâs School of Fine Arts will present its Chamber Winds spring concert Tuesday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.
âI love hearing our students have the opportunity to perform in smaller chamber ensembles,â said Dr. Caroline Taylor, dean of the School of Fine Arts and professor of music at Ouachita. âIt gives them wonderful experience working independently and playing music written specifically for their groups.â
Directed by Dr. Carlos Feller, assistant professor of music, the Flute Choir will perform âTwilightâ by Herman Beeftink, âThe Catâs Pajamasâ by Nicole Chamberlain and âSerenovaâ by choir member Brailee Price, a sophomore instrumental music education major from Pineville, La. The Low Brass Choir, under the direction of Dr. Austin Motley, assistant professor of music, will perform Motleyâs arrangement of âGod is So Goodâ and âBah, Bah, Baaah,â arranged by Brian Sadler.
Franz Joseph Haydnâs âAllegroâ and âGavotte en Rondeauâ by Jean-Francois Dandrieu will be performed by the Clarinet Ensemble. The Saxophone Quartet will perform âInto the Fireâ by Jenna Barnes, a junior music industry major from Sheridan, Ark.
âSince I was little, Iâve dreamed about having a piece performed that I wrote. Itâs amazing to think itâs finally happening,â Barnes said. âI love that my music brings enjoyment to people.â
She added, âIn the four months that it took me to write âInto The Fire,â I have learned to use my imagination more than I ever thought possible. This has and will transfer to every part of my life.â
Taylor will conduct the Clarinet Ensemble and Saxophone Quartet; she will perform with the quartet, as well.
Clarinet Ensemble and Saxophone Quartet members will combine to form the Single Reed Ensemble, performing âShenandoah,â arranged by Harley Rex, and âAllegroâ from Three Dances by Guy Woolfenden.
The concert will be livestreamed at livestream.com/obu. For more information, contact Dr. Caroline Taylor at [email protected] or (870) 245-5139.
