Chelsea Dungee Named All-American

FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas women’s basketball senior star guard Chelsea Dungee was named third-team All-American by the Associated Press, it was announced Wednesday.


The SEC’s leading scorer averaging 22.3 points per game and named first-team All-SEC, Dungee becomes Arkansas’ first women’s basketball All-American since former Lady’Backs great Shameka Christon of Hot Springs was named third-team All-American in 2004.

A native of Sapulpa, Okla. who played her freshman season at the University of Oklahoma before redshirting as a sophomore transfer and then starring three years for Coach Mike Neighbors’ Razorbacks including leading Arkansas, 19-8, to a No. 4 seed against 13th-seeded Wright State in Monday’s first round of the NCAA Women’s Tournament.


Dungee leads the nation in free throws made and third nationally in free throws attempted, 163 of 206, and has actually averaged scoring more within the SEC 23.1 than nonconference games but scored 37 in Arkansas’ mammoth upset of national power UConn.
