Chris Jones Kicks off Promise of Arkansas Tour, Set Table for Primary Campaign

Press Release

LITTLE ROCK — Chris Jones, Democratic candidate for Governor of Arkansas, kicked off his statewide The Promise of Arkansas Tour with a campaign rally in North Little Rock on Saturday. The rally, live streamed to hundreds across the state, marked Jones’s introduction of signature policy issues: high quality preschool for all families, affordable broadband for every home, and economic development focused on creating high wage jobs.

This rally was the flagship event of the first week of Jones’s The Promise of Arkansas Tour where he will visit all 75 counties in 30 days. Chris Jones announced his candidacy in June 2021 and is set to run against Republican Sarah Huckabee Sanders in the general election. (Announcement video link).

“Arkansas is tired. Tired of feeling exhausted. Tired of everyone telling us that we are destined for poverty. Tired of being in the bottom in education and the top in drug addiction,” said Chris Jones. “I know that we can seize this opportunity and realize the Promise of Arkansas, by spreading Preschool, Broadband, and Jobs across the state.

“I have 200 years of Arkansas in my blood. I’ve seen that Arkansans know how to stand on Faith, Hope, and Hard Work to do the impossible. It’s in our DNA. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is playing a kind of zero sum politics. It’s the kind of politics that latches on to big talking points and is not focused on real problems that Arkansans face. We will win this race by going to every county in Arkansas and looking neighbors in the eye, shaking their hands, hearing their voices, and asking them to join us in building a better Arkansas by fixing our challenges together.

“We will win this race. We have too many kids living in poverty, too many underpaid educators, too many broken bridges, too many families without Internet, and too many families unable to buy groceries to throw away our shot.”

After today in Pulaski County, The Promise of Arkansas Tour moves on tomorrow to Clark, Cleveland, Columbia, Ouachita and Union counties. Jones is scheduled to listen to and to meet and share his vision with Arkansans in all 75 counties before March.
