Jacksonville Police Department (JPD) asked ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred overnight at a local restaurant that left Vashun Mayo, 31, wounded and hospitalized. Initial reports indicate the gunshot wound to Mayo is not life-threatening.

JPD officers responded at approximately 11:42 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2023, to an armed robbery report at the Waffle House on 116 Marshall Road in Jacksonville. When officers arrived, the armed suspect fled into a wooded area, reportedly firing on officers. During the incident, JPD officers discharged their service firearms.

Mayo was taken into custody and transported to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) for treatment. No officers or restaurant patrons were injured in the incident.

An investigative case file will be presented to the prosecuting attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force by officers was consistent with Arkansas law.
