Coach's Corner - Spring Hill vs. Cutter

Spring Hill and Cutter-Morning Star slugged it out in a barn burner Friday night, with the Bears edging the Eagles out in the fourth quarter with a final score of 20-14.

When asked about the game, Coach Greg Smith commented that Spring Hill’s defensive unit really put in the work in holding off Cutter’s offense. Smith went on to say that the Bears’ throwing and catching seemed to be a weaker point in their game, and looks to improve on that this week at practice, despite the possibility of rainy weather.

“I guess they’ll get some practice catching the ball in the rain,” Smith said, jokingly.

Smith seemed proud of the players overall, but said the standout was Senior Quarterback Colin Purifoy, who rushed for 115 yards. In the fourth quarter, Purifoy made a 65-yard touchdown run while the Bears were down 14-12, with an additional two-point conversion, giving Spring Hill their victory over Cutter.

Tuesday, Smith said, they’re debuting the 7th-grade unit at 5:30 p.m., followed by a Jr. High game at 7:30 vs. Mountain Pine.

Friday, the Jr. High and Sr. High players will travel to Hermitage for games at 5:30 and 7:30 respectively, for Spring Hill’s second conference game of the season.
