Coach's Corner - Spring Hill's Greg Smith Talks 42-0 Win Over Hermitage

Over the weekend, Spring Hill met Hermitage at their opponent’s field and brought home a 42-0 victory. Spring Hill’s Coach Greg Smith said that Hermitage definitely brought a “never quit” attitude to the game, and played their hearts out, but Spring Hill came ready as well and the rest, as they say, is history.

Smith said that, while the junior high game got soaked by some tropical weather, the senior high had clear skies. The field, he said, was still sloppy, but the boys managed to make it work. Spring Hill scored on every possession they had in the first half, and scored 26 points before halftime. A couple of quarantined players set them back a bit, Smith said, but they established a running game and kept their momentum.

He attributes a 60-yard run by T.J. Tipton as what put a lot of wind in Spring Hill’s sails early on, even though Tipton was brought down just shy of the endzone. That play, he said, really set the tone for the rest of the game for the Bears. Other standouts included Tucker Runyan with several tackles over the course of the game, Dalton Gammage with a big pick, as well as Eli Pierce, Teyton Barton, and Levin Mcguire.

With no game this weekend, Smith said the team will be focusing on basics on the practice field, and academics in the classroom. The quarantined players, having missed a few days of in-class work, will be playing catchup and focusing on getting strong and healthy for next week’s game against Rosebud.

Defensive lineman Eli Pierce praised the team overall, saying that they were staying focused and practicing for next time. He said the defense was good overall, but they need to work on their corners a bit over the next week. Pierce praised teammates Barton, Tipton, and Dalton Glover as standouts against Hermitage, and said the team has really come together so far this season.
