Collapsed Barry's Grocery now being removed

Collapsed Barry's Grocery now being removed
At the corner of Second and Hazel Street tonight a faithful old building that over its history has housed a Chevrolet dealership and, most recently, Barry's Grocery, was being demolished and removed by backhoes and dump trucks.

The building's roof fell in just after noon on Wednesday, January 28th from the accumulation of sleet that fell during Winter Storm Fern. The wreckage has remained on its lot, surrounded by the outside brick walls and windows and some fencing since that time. There is no word whether Barry's Grocery will eventually rebuilt or re-open at another location.

Barry's was most noted for the quality of its meat selections and for selling Hope Watermelons as soon as they were available.
