If you've been in our local Save-a lot lately you may have noticed some slight changes throughout the store, Save-a-lot has some exciting news, they are transitioning back to Piggly Wiggly.
Six months ago they started to notice that things within the community were changing in the sense that their customers were looking for more than just limited assortment items, which is typically what Save-a-lot has carried on their shelves for years so they came to the conclusion that they should change with their consumers and switch back to the Piggly Wiggly banner.
"Limited assortment items is a trend that is now a thing of the past. Things are changing in our community, whether it be here in Hope, Shreveport or any of the communities that we're in and we decided that the customers are looking for more than just limited assortment items like what Save- a- lot carries, that's when the determination was made to go back to Piggly Wiggly, which was a name that we have carried and bantered with now for over forty years," Geoff Salisbury, District Manager of Save-a-lot said.
They have changed many things already, signage, sales papers, sacks but the biggest change will be in the quality and brands of groceries available to shoppers. Now they will not only carry the generic brands, the cheaper ones but also, the best choice brands and even national brands.
"We will have your generic, the cheaper brands so to speak and then the next brand above it will always say best choice and then it'll go into a national brand so technically we will be able to carry, hopefully, everything a customer wants, that's the idea, to carry everything our consumers want," Salisbury said.
Little by little the store is progressing, with new signage, sacks, packaging and shelves coming in soon. Groceries items from their new supplier, AWG/Associated Wholesale Groceries are expected to be stocked within the two next weeks. August the 10, 2020 will be the actual transition date with a grand opening to follow afterward.
"We've had a lot of stuff coming in, new signs, new packaging, the new sign will show up here in the next few weeks and it's gonna be a really great thing for the community to bring back Piggly Wiggly. This used to be a Piggly Wiggly years ago and everywhere we've done this so far the response has been overwhelming," Salisbury said.
They will have 'pig gear' as well; shirts, sweaters, hoodies, yeti type cups, coolers, tumblers, hats and more. "You name it, we will have it so anyone that wants any pig gear, they'll be able to buy it while they shop in the store. That has really been going crazy in our other stores that we changed over so far," Salisbury said
