Constitution Week Proclamation signed by Prescott Mayor Terry Oliver
Tuesday, September 17, 2024 is the 237th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution by 39 delegates and officers of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. The group had worked through a hot summer to craft the document that is still the core of federal law.

To commemorate the day, Prescott Mayo Terry Oliver signed a proclamation that this week is Constitution Week in the city. With him was Benjamin Culp Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Regent Georgia Estes who explained the significance of the day. "It means that that was when our basic laws were formed, from which everything else came."

Many other DAR members were in attendance.

Mayor Oliver said he is grateful that the Constitution still stands and hopes it continues to far into the future.

The signing took place in the lobby of the Nevada County Library Tuesday afternoon where a display, free copies of the Constitution (with Bill of Rights) and pamphlets about the DAR will be available all this week.
