Cotton to Biden: Any Delay in Military Aid to Israel Violates Will of Congress

Senator Tom Cotton Military Aid To Israel Will Of Congress
Cotton to Biden: Any Delay in Military Aid to Israel Violates Will of Congress
Washington, D.C. — Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today wrote a letter to President Joe Biden condemning the Biden-Harris administration’s threat to impose an arms embargo on Israel if they do not meet the administration’s unreasonable demands to deliver humanitarian assistance to Gaza. These threats are contrary to Congress’s intent and should be rescinded immediately.

In part, Senator Cotton wrote:

“Denying Israel military aid is in direct opposition to the will of Congress, as expressed in the Israeli security supplemental passed earlier this year. Unilaterally threatening to cut off aid by declaring Israel in violation of U.S. law also ignores Congress’s oversight role. Your administration insists on protecting a terrorist organization in the name of humanitarian aid. ”

October 16, 2024

President Joseph R. Biden

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

Washington, DC 20500

I write to strongly condemn the Biden-Harris administration’s threat to impose an arms embargo on Israel if they do not meet your unreasonable demands to deliver humanitarian assistance to Gaza. Your October 13, 2024, letter to Ministers Gallant and Dermer is a politically driven excuse to pressure our ally to ratchet down its campaign against the Iranian regime and its terrorist proxies.

Denying Israel military aid is in direct opposition to the will of Congress, as expressed in the Israeli security supplemental passed earlier this year. Unilaterally threatening to cut off aid by declaring Israel in violation of U.S. law also ignores Congress’s oversight role. Your administration insists on protecting a terrorist organization in the name of humanitarian aid.

I demand that you provide any “evidence” of such violations to the relevant Congressional committees within the next three days. As I assume you cannot do so, I demand that you immediately rescind your threats to our ally.

Sincerely,

Tom Cotton

United States Senator
