During Mary Godwin's report from Economic Development, court members were given an update from Colby Wells of South Central Connect on the status of fiber internet in Prescott and Nevada County. Wells said that it will be installed in Prescott first and then expanded throughout the county. He said that eventually almost the entirety of Nevada County will be covered, except for the Willisville area since they have a different provider, and that as long as residents have electricity they can receive services. Wells said that by mid-January an up-to-date service map will be available on their website southcentralconnect.net. Prices will vary from $50 to $100, based on speed, and it is an unlimited service.
Wells said construction begins soon and that the current timeline predicts Prescott residents to gain service in late 2023 to early 2024, and the outlying areas of the county in possibly 2026. However, citizens may go ahead now and begin the sign-up process if they choose, so the company can have more accurate details about mapping. southcentralconnect.net
