Curley Wolves Season Comes to an end in State Quarterfinals

Rogers/Springdale- Prescott saw a great season come to an end Saturday night in the Quarterfinals of the State Tournament in a loss to Central Arkansas Christian. Friday night the Curley Wolves defeated Elkins 7-1 to advance to Saturday. It was a great season by the Curley Wolves baseball team, it had its ups-and-downs, but this resilient group of young men did not let anything get in the way of a trip to the State Tournament this season. Led by a great group of seniors (Carston Poole, Branen Bradley, Caden Dice, Avery Hubbard, DQ Hopper, Tidorian Thompson, Travion Dickens) that set the tone for the Diamond Wolves this season, and also gave a great example of how to lead on and off the field.

Friday night Junior pitcher Pierce Yates was well worth the price of admission to every fan in the stands, as well as a nightmare for the hitters and coaches from Elkins. Yates tossed a 1-Hitter and struck out 14 batters in the most impressive pitching performance I have seen this season. The defense was stellar behind him as they played a flawless game in the field and the catching from Spencer Hubbard was excellent. Prescott outhit the Elks 11 to 1 as Pierce Yates, Marketric Mixon, and Avery Hubbard each had multiple hits and Mixon also had 2 RBI. Spencer Hubbard had 2 RBI and a single, Talan Smith added an RBI double, Branen Bradley and Carston Poole each had a single and an RBI, and Keegan Simmons roped a single as well. Coach McCauley was very pleased with how his team came out and performed Friday night. With a very impressive victory the Curley Wolves earned a spot in the Quarterfinals to face CAC on Satruday.

Saturday the Curley Wolves jumped on the board in the top of the 1st inning as Talan Smith came around to score on a fielders’ choice off the bat of Pierce Yates. That would prove to be the only run the Curley Wolves would push across Saturday as they squared multiple balls up, they just were hit right at the defense. A tough CAC lineup banged out 7 hits and drew 9 walks Saturday, Prescott played really good defense only committing 1 error, and including both days that was the only mishap on the defense the entire weekend. The game and season did not finish how the players, coaches, and fans wanted it too, but it was a great season by a great group of young men. Also a great job by the coaching staff as well, Coach Gavan McCauley, Taylor Wood, and Traci Rucker. We at SWARK would like to say congratulations on a great season.
