Curley Wolves Use the Long Ball to Knock off Genoa, Yates Blast Walk-Off HR

Prescott- With the game knotted at 4-4 in the bottom of the 7th inning against undefeated Genoa Central, Pierce Yates called game with a walk-off blast over the left field wall to give the Curley Wolves a 5-4 victory. Yates also got the nod from Coach McCauley to take the mound in this very important conference matchup as he scattered just 2 runs and racking up 8 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. Talan Smith pitched the last 2 innings of the game for the Curly Wolves striking out 2 batters and earning the win. Genoa jumped out to an early lead Monday night, with the Curley Wolves trailing 2-1 going into the bottom of the 5th inning, Carston Poole hit a missile down the left field line for a clutch 3-run homer to put the Curley Wolves ahead 4-2. Poole has now hit a round-tripper in each of the last 2 games. Genoa then scraped across 2 runs in the 6th inning to tie the game 4-4 headed into the last inning. A great 7th inning from Talan Smith on the mound set up the heroic walk-off blast from Pierce Yates to win the game. Yates finished the game with 3 hits, Poole and Branen Bradley had 2 hits apiece for the Curley Wolves. This was a great team win, where pitching and defense played a huge part in knocking off the Dragons. With the win, Prescott is now sporting a 4-2 conference record. Next up for the Curley Wolves is a home conference game Thursday against Jessieville.
