Drive-in movie shown at Prescott Fairgrounds for Summer Reading program start

Attendees find comfortable places in front of the screen at the Prescott Fairground last night. The feature was The Super Mario Brothers Movie.

An occasional trickle of rain did not dampen spirits at the Nevada County Public Library's Drive-in Movie Night. It was a way of starting the Summer Reading Program, that will take place in the weeks to follow.

About 50 cars lined up in the Fairgrounds' grassy field just west of the Potlatch building, ushered to their spots by members of the Prescott Fire Department. The Prescott Lions Club and Hurricane Henry's Shaved Ice set up their food trucks, while the seniors of Prescott High School sold popcorn to raise money for their activities in the next school year. In addition, members of the Prescott Rotary Club offered rice krispies treats.

Attendees could sit in their cars and listen to the sound of The Super Mario Brothers Movie over an FM station, or they could sit in chairs or on blankets, as many youngsters and parents did, to watch the screen up close and hear the music through powerful speakers that stood around it.

A list of the Nevada County Library's Summer Reading Program Events and details about how to register can be found on the library's web page.
