If you’re wondering what to do with your eclipse glasses, the Hope Lions Club has a suggestion. Just slip them into the collection boxes at Farmers Bank, the Hope-Hempstead Chamber of Commerce or at the Hope Post Office and they’ll be shipped out and put to use in places in the world where eclipses can be seen.
Lion Past-president Claudia Griffin said the glasses will be shipped first to students in Chile who will be able to see an annular solar eclipse October 2, 2024. In Amman, Jordan, where Griffin’s daughter Michelle is a teacher, an eclipse is expected September 7, 2025. Glasses would be sent there as well.
Lions eyeglass donation boxes can be seen at the Hope Post Office, on the island just in front of the service counter, and at many restaurants and businesses in the area. Remember that you can still use those boxes to donate used eyeglasses.
