The farm’s unique name has a sweet backstory. It was inspired by the Kirkpatricks’ oldest granddaughter, who, as a young child, insisted on calling Mrs. Grace "Hannah." Despite many attempts to correct her, the name stuck. So when it came time to name the farm, Hannah's Berries was a natural choice.
The Kirkpatricks became interested in farming as they approached retirement. At the time, no one in the area was selling blueberries or blackberries, so they decided to give it a try. Over the years, they’ve expanded their offerings to include a variety of produce. In their efforts to grow beautiful berries, they realized they needed pollinators, which led them to start keeping honey bees. As a result, they now also offer delicious local honey.
For the past 15 years, the Kirkpatricks have been producing berries and other fresh produce in their high tunnels. Customer favorites include their sweet blueberries and blackberries, as well as their local honey. Some of their own favorites to grow are tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant, which thrive in the high tunnel environment.
We are truly blessed to have the Kirkpatricks and Hannah's Berries as part of the Emmet Farmers Market family. We hope you’ve enjoyed learning more about our Vendor Spotlight for the month of May!
