FAYETTEVILLE -- One of the more successful players in Arkansas history, outfielder Andrew Benintendi, was traded on Wednesday night from the Kansas City Royals to the New York Yankees.
He also made his first career All-Star Game this season and is slashing .321/.389/.399 with three home runs and 39 RBI. Coming out of Arkansas, Benintendi was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in Round 1 with the No. 7 pick in 2015.
That followed a dream season and career with the Razorbacks. In 2015, Benintendi won the Golden Spikes Award (baseball's version of the Heisman Trophy), Dick Howser Trophy, SEC Player of the Year and SEC Male Athlete of the Year.
In 2015, Benintendi hit .376, 20 home runs, 57 RBI, .488 on-base percentage and .717 slugging percentage.
The Yankees gave up three minor leaguers for Benintendi who will be a free agent after this season. He leaves the Royals for a Yankees team that is one of the favorites to win the World Series this season.
